Last night Anita, Kelci and I couldn't sleep and basically spent the whole night reminiscing on all of our adventures and days here together. In true Haitian fashion our rooster crowed all through the night and every time he did, we would laugh. (We really hate that thing.) We thought it would be a good idea to eat him but couldn't get Garry to jump on board with us.
On our way to the airport, Pypo stopped by one of the markets so that we could buy souvenirs. We all supported the Haitian economy a little more than we probably should have! I fell in love with a bunch of the beautiful Haitian paintings and bought a few for the family and for friends. I bought a large black and white one of some Haitian people working to put in my dorm so I won't ever forget this amazing experience.
I ended up being on the same flight as Kelci, Dr. Mike, and Tim and Anita flew out about an hour before us. We all went to a little Haitian cafe while waiting for the plane and exchanged more tales of everything we had done during the week. I think it was there we all realized that we were now more than just friends and colleagues...we became a family. Garry warned us on the first day, "In Haiti, everyone is family." I will definitely miss each one of my group members.
The past nine days have shown me many things about the world, people and about life. I am extremely blessed and honored that I had the opportunity to achieve this goal and to come lend a small hand in rebuilding such an amazing and inspiring country. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to surround myself with such a wonderful group of people who will continue to have a huge impact on my heart and life forever. Thank you to each one of my sponsors and to all of you back home who have been praying for me and for these beautiful people.
The last but not the least. Definitely, the best of your posts. From the beginning, I was wondering how the story with the rooster would ended. I'm glad you didn't hurt him, hahaha. I have one too so I know how disturbing they can be while your sleeping and I can tell you such ideas cross my mind sometimes, lol. You know what, it's obvious this country have marked you. Our culture, our people, our land, our passion for God; everything! This blog should be the beginning of something, like a commitment to your appreciation for Haiti. Leave it there would look like an unfinished homework. I encourage you to do more with it and I guarantee you my support all the way. Thank you for praising my country. With all my hear, thank you.
